I. Lecture Dr. Drew Thompson, San Francisco

Drew Thompson is Assistant Professor of Historical and Africana Studies at Bard College. For his PhD thesis, completed in African history, he studied the racial politics of photographic representation in colonial and post-independent Mozambique. He recently authored, Filtering Histories: The Photographic Bureaucracy in Mozambique, 1960 to Recent Times (University of Michigan Press, 2021), and is currently at work on a book about the history of the Polaroid in Africa.
II. Lecture Delphine Bedel, Amsterdam

is an artist, lecturer, curator and editorial director, specialised in emerging practices in visual culture, design and publishing. Her research focuses on the legacy of women photographers and their editorial practices, and she contributes to books and magazines. She is currently teaching at the Royal Academy of the Arts, The Hague (NL). Her work is exhibited internationally.
III. Lecture Silja Pitkänen, Finland

Silja Pitkänen is writing a doctorial dissertation at the University of Jyväskylä. In „Children in Soviet and German Propaganda Photographs in the 1930s“ her research concerns visual culture of totalitarism and the history of childhood and upbringing, as well as the themes of nationalism and nation building.
